Culture

Improvement by (mental or physical) training, intellectual development, particular form, stage or type of intellectual development or civilization.

Culcheth has a population of about 9000 and over the past 20 years has been transformed from a rural community into a thriving village
Culcheth is often described as a dormitory settlement for the cities of Manchester and Liverpool and the towns of Warrington (www.warrington.gov.uk) and Leigh.  Its location close to the motorway network also makes the village popular with those commuting further a field.

The close proximity of major employers such as BNFL and AEA Technology plus other high-tech businesses on the Risley Science Park enables the area to claim one of the highest concentrations of graduates per head of population in the country.

The village provides excellent opportunities for mental, spiritual and physical development of both local residents and visitors.  If you want more than Culcheth can offer then the cultural centres of Manchester and  Liverpool are only 30 minutes away by car and have good rail links.
EDUCATION

The village has some excellent schools and pre-school education facilities.  There are five pre-school/nursery facilities and four primary schools to choose from.  Secondary education is provided at Culcheth High School and it is only a short journey to St Aelreds RC High School in Newton-le-Willows.  The Culcheth High School site also provides tertiary education at Culcheth College.

The High School is also the home of adult education through Culcheth Adult Education Centre.  This is supported by adult education at Warrington Collegiate Institute from its campuses at Padgate and Winwick Road.
CHURCHES
Newchurch Parish Church – new at the last millennium – was once an outpost of the famous Norman Church at Winwick. The Church and its Parish Hall in the centre of the village are focal points of a thriving congregation and community activity.

Culcheth Methodist Church is an equally thriving church and community facility.  St Lewis' Roman Catholic Church is less than two miles from the centre of Culcheth located next to the RC Primary School at Croft.

CLUBS & SOCIETIES

Culcheth Sports & Socials Club (www.daten.co.uk) offers a wide range of social, sport and cultural activities.  The club, once the social club of AEA/BNFL, is now a community facility having recently been acquired with the aid of a lottery grant.

The Daten, as it is known locally, has good sports facilities including bowls, tennis, football and cricket.  It has a thriving drama group and choral society who produce frequent performances.

The Daten may well be the largest and most comprehensive local centre for sport and cultural activity but there are more than 50 other clubs and societies active in the community.

For those with an interest in the countryside there are many paths around the village including Culcheth Linear Park.   There are other facilities near by – Birchwood Forest Park, Risley and Pennington Flash Country Park, Leigh provide good walking with sailing at Pennington Flash.  All these hold regular events and activities.
